Steve Lawson Defeats Incumbent Sheriff in Republican Primary


Steve Lawson is the winner of the Bradley County Republican Primary election, according to the results from the Bradley County Election Commission. Being that there is no Democratic challenger, Lawson will be Bradley County's new sheriff.  

Lawson has been a life-long resident of Bradley County. He attended Charleston and Michigan Avenue Elementary School and graduated from Bradley Central High School. Lawson studied Criminal Justice at Cleveland State Community College, and graduated from the Tennessee Law Enforcement Training Academy located in Donelson, Tennessee, and the Cleveland State Basic Law Enforcement Training Academy.

Lawson began his service in law enforcement with the Bradley County Sheriff’s Office back in 1976. He moved up through the ranks as a patrol deputy, detective, and Supervisor in both the Patrol and Criminal Investigations Divisions.

Lawson received a promotion to Captain of the Criminal Investigation Division in 1987 and then took a break from law enforcement from 1988 to 2006 while working in the private sector. He returned to the Bradley County Sheriff’s Office in 2006 when he was asked to become Captain and head up the Criminal Investigation Division once again.

With his victory on May 1st Lawson will become the 50th Sheriff of Bradley County Tennessee.
